Krachel French Toast

  • 3Large eggs
  • 200 mlWhole milk
  • 50 mlHeavy cream
  • 2 tbspSugar
  • 1 tspVanilla extract
  • 0.5 tspGround cinnamon
  • 0.25 tspGround cardamom
  • 2 tbspButter (for cooking)
  • 2 tbspHoney (for drizzling)
  • 3 tbspToasted sesame seeds
  • 2 tbspPowdered sugar (for dusting)
  • 200 gGreek yogurt or crème fraîche

Instructions

  1. Make custard: Whisk together eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, and ground cardamom in a shallow bowl to make the custard.

  2. Slice buns: Slice Krachel buns lengthwise (or into 1-cm thick slices if using rolls).

  3. Heat butter: Heat butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat until foaming.

  4. Dip and cook: Quickly dip each slice of bread into the custard, coating both sides but not soaking (about 1–2 seconds per side). Immediately place on the hot skillet.

  5. Cook until golden: Cook for 2–3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy on the outside, soft and custardy on the inside.

  6. Finish: Transfer to serving plates. Drizzle with honey, sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds, and dust with powdered sugar.

  7. Serve: Serve immediately with a dollop of Greek yogurt or crème fraîche on the side.
