Krachel (Aniseed & Sesame Sweet Buns)

- 500 gAll-purpose flour
- 7 gInstant yeast
- 50 gGranulated sugar
- 1 tspSalt
- 200 mlWarm milk
- 1Large egg
- 75 gButter, melted
- 2 tbspAniseed
- 1 tspOrange zest
- 3 gSesame seeds
- 1 tbspWater (for egg wash)
Instructions
Make dough: In a large bowl, combine all-purpose flour, instant yeast, granulated sugar, and salt. Add warm milk, large egg, melted butter, aniseed, and orange zest. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Knead and first rise: Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Cover and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour until doubled in size.
Shape buns: Divide dough into 12 equal pieces. Shape each into a round bun and place on a greased baking sheet, spacing them 2 inches apart.
Second rise: Cover and let rise for 30–40 minutes until puffy.
Prep for baking: Preheat oven to 190°C (375°F). Beat large egg with water to make egg wash. Brush each bun with egg wash and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
Bake: Bake for 15–18 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Cool on a wire rack.
